KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. A manhunt is under way in Scotland after a double murder this weekend.
Two people found stabbed to death in Glasgow. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward immediately. That's coming up on The World Desk.
Then on Criminal Intent — a Florida man crashes on I-seventy-five, sees the anti-Christ, and tries to steal the rescue helicopter. That happened back in June of this year.
That is a tribute to the state of Florida.
It is.
Animals has a baby deer trapped on a freezing pond, and firefighters are battling an industrial blaze in Ohio after an explosion. That's Sports.
The explosion is not a sport.
Still ahead on The World Desk — Glasgow police release new details in the double homicide, and we're watching that story closely. Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening.
You sat forward again.
I did.
We start overseas.
In Scotland, authorities are conducting a manhunt after two people were found stabbed to death in Glasgow over the weekend.
Police Scotland has not released the identities of the victims but says the suspect is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
Glasgow is Scotland's second-largest city and has historically been a major port on the North Sea.
Glasgow is on the River Clyde, which empties into the Atlantic.
The Irish Sea corridor.
The Atlantic Ocean.
Via the Irish Sea.
Also in the United Kingdom, a British couple has lost their home in a wildfire that swept through parts of Stourbridge this week.
Loxie and Robin Williams returned home Thursday to find firefighters attempting to save the structure, but the building was a total loss.
Mrs. Williams told reporters that words cannot describe what it feels like to lose everything they had built together.
Stourbridge is in the West Midlands, roughly an hour north of London by rail.
Two hours.
Express service is an hour.
There is no express service to Stourbridge.
The family says they are grateful no one was injured and that neighbors have offered temporary housing while they work with insurance adjusters.
In business news, a former backer of Lebara Group is being lined up to make a bid for the consumer operations of TalkTalk, the British telecommunications provider.
The identity of the bidder has not been made public, but sources say the deal could be worth several hundred million pounds and would split TalkTalk's consumer base from its business division.
TalkTalk has been struggling in recent quarters as British consumers shift toward bundled service packages that include streaming and mobile.
The company has been profitable in three of the last four years.
Profitable but struggling.
Those are opposites.
Not in telecom.
That is the story from overseas.
Still ahead, a Wexler County man faces charges after a domestic dispute turned violent, and investigators say he had been warned twice before.
Criminal Intent is next.
That's next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian.
Deb, did Gordo favor camera two during the animal close.
That segment hasn't aired yet.
I'm being proactive.
We begin tonight with a story out of Florida that answers a question nobody was asking.
Back in June of this year, a Hernando County man crashed his pickup truck on Interstate Seventy-Five, told first responders he had just seen the anti-Christ, and then attempted to steal the medical helicopter that had landed to transport the injured.
The suspect is accused of entering the helicopter while paramedics were loading patients.
He made it as far as the pilot's seat before troopers removed him from the aircraft. The helicopter was not damaged. The patients were transported without further incident.
Florida Highway Patrol says the suspect has been charged with attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Which raises the question: does a helicopter count as a motor vehicle under Florida law.
It has a motor.
In other news tonight, a Glasgow manhunt continues after two people were found stabbed to death over the weekend.
Police Scotland says the suspect is considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities immediately.
We'll continue to follow that story as it develops.
A jury at the Old Bailey has been discharged after thirty-seven hours of deliberations in a trial involving activists accused of damaging property at an Elbit Systems facility.
Thirty-seven hours is a long time for a jury to be out.
It's a hung jury.
Which means the prosecution may retry the case, resources permitting.
Resources permitting.
And in media news, ABC and its corporate parent Disney have filed a lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission, alleging First Amendment violations.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr says the lawsuit is without merit.
We'll see how that plays out in federal court.
Still ahead: a story Chip has promised will make you smile.
Happy Animals has verified it.
That's next.
ANIMALS
ANIMALS.
Gordo, I need confirmation that camera two is favored for every close in this segment. It reads warmer and I would like that warmth documented.
Camera two is the same temperature as camera one.
The angle is warmer.
A baby deer trapped on a frozen pond in Pennsylvania was pulled to safety by firefighters Tuesday morning after spending nearly four hours on the ice.
The fawn was spotted by a jogger at dawn. Crews from Lancaster County Fire used an inflatable raft to reach the animal without breaking through the ice themselves.
The deer was released back into woodland near the pond and walked away without injury. Video of the rescue has eleven million views.
That is — that is exactly what we do this for.
It is.
A Scottish wildcat was spotted swimming across a loch in the Cairngorms last week, marking what wildlife officials believe is the first recorded sighting of the species entering water voluntarily.
Researchers from the Cairngorms Wildcat Project captured the observation using motion-triggered cameras. The animal crossed roughly thirty meters of open water before reaching the opposite shore.
Fewer than three hundred Scottish wildcats remain in the wild. Officials say the observation suggests the species may be adapting to climate shifts that are altering their traditional hunting grounds.
Three hundred.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 — a college football team that has not beaten its rival in three years opens the season favored by thirty-eight points. That story and the rest of the night in SPORTS.
That's next.
SPORTS
Time now for The KRAK 11 Scoreboard.
And before we get to the scores, I would like to go on record that this segment should be called The Marlowe Scoreboard.
It's called The KRAK 11 Scoreboard.
I understand that. I'm saying there's precedent for naming a sports segment after the anchor who delivers it, and I have delivered this segment for nine years.
Nine years and four months.
Chess. Magnus Carlsen has defended his title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup in Riyadh, defeating Fabiano Caruana in what many are calling the performance of the decade.
Carlsen won four games to two in rapid playoff tiebreakers after fourteen consecutive draws.
Fourteen draws, Deb. That is mental endurance at the highest level of competitive play.
That is identical preparation.
Carlsen now holds the world number one ranking for the ninth consecutive year, which many consider makes him the greatest of all time in the sport.
Garry Kasparov held the ranking for two hundred fifty-five months.
Carlsen is still playing.
He is.
College football. Yahoo Sports has released its preseason top twenty-five, and Ohio State comes in at number four behind Georgia, Alabama, and Texas.
The Buckeyes open September second against Akron. They are favored by thirty-eight points, and the expectation in Columbus is clear: beat Michigan, win the playoff.
Ohio State has not beaten Michigan in three years.
Which is why the expectation is clear.
And overdue.
Soccer. Barcelona has completed the signing of Manchester City midfielder Rodri for sixty-five million pounds, a record transfer fee for the Catalan club.
Rodri told reporters he is ready for excitement again after helping Manchester City secure the Premier League title last season.
Barcelona finished third in La Liga.
He is looking for a new challenge.
He found one.
Rugby. New Zealand international Ruby Tui has signed a one-year deal with Trailfinders Women.
Tui, thirty-four, was part of the Black Ferns squad that won the World Cup in twenty twenty-two and brings championship experience to a Trailfinders side that finished fourth in the Premier Fifteen last season.
Trailfinders said the signing represents a major step forward for the club.
And Formula One. Honda has admitted publicly that it did not fully understand the scale of its technical problems until January of this year.
The Japanese manufacturer finished seventh in the twenty twenty-five constructors' championship and says a full internal review revealed deficiencies in aerodynamics, power unit integration, and race strategy that went undiagnosed for most of last season.
They finished seventh out of ten teams.
Which is why the review was necessary.
Finishing seventh out of ten is the diagnosis, Chip.
Still ahead, the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. We will have the latest on a manhunt under way in Glasgow after two people were found stabbed to death over the weekend. Police Scotland says the suspect is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
That is the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. I'm Deb Sarkissian.
And I'm Chip Marlowe. Thank you for watching The Marlowe Scoreboard.
The KRAK 11 Scoreboard.
Good night.
