And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour.

And later in SPORTS — Hurricane Lala has knocked out power to eighty-nine thousand Hawaii homes. THE WORLD DESK has that story in just a moment.
Stay with us.
Sharks tend to bite if you try to swim with them.
Why would you try to swim with sharks.
That's the whole thing about sharks.
Ugh.
After the morning segment I'm going to try to swim with a shark.
You do that.
Shark. Shark. Shark. Shark!
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian.
Before we begin, I'd like to note that tonight's segment covers events on six continents, and I believe our viewers appreciate that kind of global perspective from a station this size.
We're covering the United Kingdom and Massachusetts.
That's two continents, which demonstrates range.
We begin in the United Kingdom, where health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak that has killed one person and sickened hundreds more in recent weeks.
The outbreak is centered in England and has been linked to imported eggs from the European continent, which borders England to the east across the North Sea.
Across the English Channel.
British authorities say most cases were reported in England in recent weeks. The Food Standards Agency is working with suppliers to trace the source of the contaminated eggs.
No recall has been issued yet, but officials are advising consumers to cook eggs thoroughly and practice proper food handling. Health authorities believe the outbreak is contained to imported product.
In Massachusetts, testimony has begun in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a mother accused of killing her three children. Clancy has admitted to the killings but has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Her defense is postpartum psychosis. Her mother-in-law testified today that Clancy had begged for help in the weeks before the deaths of her daughter and two sons.
The defense is expected to present psychiatric evidence about postpartum mental health conditions. The prosecution has not yet begun its case.
The trial is expected to last several weeks. We are not going to speculate on verdict or sentencing while testimony is ongoing.
We will not.
The Trump administration has announced new sanctions targeting officials at the International Criminal Court, including prosecutors and investigators involved in ongoing cases.
The administration says it will dismantle the court brick by brick. The ICC is headquartered in The Hague, which is in the Netherlands, on the European continent's western coast.
Western Europe.
The sanctions freeze assets and restrict travel for named individuals. The ICC has not yet responded to the announcement, though several member nations have issued statements of concern.
The court was established in two thousand two and has jurisdiction over genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in member states. The United States is not a member.
It is not, which raises the question of jurisdiction in the first place.
The court does not claim jurisdiction over the United States.
In Scotland, jury selection is underway in the trial of professional snooker player Graeme Dott, the two thousand six world champion, who faces historical charges of lewd and libidinous behaviour involving two children.
The alleged offences occurred in Glasgow and South Lanarkshire. Dott has denied all charges. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
Scotland's legal system operates separately from England's, even though both are part of the United Kingdom, which is an island nation in the North Atlantic off the coast of continental Europe.
Scotland shares the island of Great Britain with England and Wales.
We will not be covering testimony in detail out of respect for the judicial process.
Coming up on KRAK 11 News, a Fairmont man is facing multiple charges after a pursuit that began in a grocery store parking lot and ended four counties away in a vehicle reported stolen three days earlier.
Sheriff's deputies say the suspect refused to pull over for twenty-three miles, crossed into three jurisdictions, and was finally stopped by a spike strip near the county line.
That story is next in Criminal Intent.
Stay with us.
I'm a finalist.
For what.
Regional Excellence in Servitude.
Who else is a finalist.
Numbers do not count.
That's exactly what numbers do. Numbers count.
Well anyway, I win and you lose.
Chip. Don't make me bitch slap you on air.
Valid point.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Tonight we begin with a Florida man who has broken his own world record.
For launching a miniature basketball into a hoop from one hundred and two feet.
Not a crime.
A Florida man has been arrested for launching miniature basketballs at passing vehicles from his third-floor balcony, striking a patrol car and forcing officers to take evasive action.
Police say the suspect told officers he was attempting his own world record and quote did not see the vehicles end quote.
He is charged with reckless endangerment and faces up to six months in county jail. From above.
An African serval has been captured in Grundy County, Illinois after four days on the loose. Animal control officials say the exotic cat was found near a residential area and posed no immediate threat.
The serval is a medium-sized wildcat native to sub-Saharan Africa, capable of leaping ten feet vertically to catch prey, and equipped with hearing sensitive enough to detect rodents underground.
It's a cat, Chip.
It's a person of interest in at least six reported chicken disappearances across Grundy County over the last ninety-six hours.
Authorities say the owner will not face charges. The serval is being held at an undisclosed facility pending transfer to a licensed exotic animal sanctuary.
A North Carolina man has won two hundred and fifty thousand dollars after letting his lucky ring choose his lottery ticket at a convenience store in Gastonia.
The winner told lottery officials he held his hand over the scratch-off display and quote let the ring pull him to the right ticket end quote.
The ring is a nineteen seventy-four high school class ring he has worn for fifty-two years. He says it has never been wrong.
He chose the lump sum payment of one hundred seventy-seven thousand dollars after taxes.
The ring was unavailable for comment.
Still ahead on KRAK Eleven News, a story that will absolutely not involve any criminal activity whatsoever.
Just animals being unreasonably adorable for no tactical reason.
That's next.
I've been running to work.
Since when.
July.
Why have you been running.
My wife left me for a runner, so I'm running after her.
You're fat. Maybe just pick up a new wife. One you can catch.
I will get her back.
That's sweet. I'm sorry to hear about your wife. How long ago did she leave?
About nine years ago.
HAPPY ANIMALS
Welcome back to KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. You moved the succulent.
I centered it.
It was already centered.
Scientists at the Natural History Museum have documented eight new problem-solving behaviors in octopuses, including what they're calling tool improvisation.
Researchers observed an octopus using a discarded bottle cap as portable shelter, carrying it along the ocean floor until it found a location it preferred.
That is a tremendously resourceful animal.
It is.
A quokka has been named the happiest animal in the world by wildlife researchers studying facial expressions in marsupials. The quokka is native to Western Australia and appears to smile constantly.
Researchers say the expression is structural, not emotional. The quokka has no idea it looks happy.
Well it looks extremely happy about it.
Online communities have embraced a raccoon named Jimothy as what multiple outlets are calling a mega meme. Photos of Jimothy wearing a small knitted hat have been shared across six platforms in the last seventy-two hours.
Why does the raccoon have a hat.
His owner knitted it.
That is just a very lucky raccoon.
Wildlife biologists in Scotland say a Japanese macaque that escaped from Highland Wildlife Park last week returned on his own after four days. The monkey walked back to the enclosure Monday morning and has shown no interest in leaving since.
He just came back.
He did.
Still ahead: we will have a look at sports. That's next.
Should I open With a joke? Or inspirational Story?
For what?
The big Speech I am giving at the Rotary Club.
People like good jokes.
Okay. So. Inspirational Story it is.
Chip...
I will tell the story of when I risked my life to save a fellow citizen in need, How I never even knew who this person was before I helped, but if it were not for me, Linda would not be living the live she is today, because of my actions she is alive.
Stop.
what do you mean?
I know Linda, You gave her twenty dollars to cover her lunch, that is hardly saving her life..
SPORTS
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News.
Gordo, the scoreboard graphic. Is it using the font I sent over Tuesday.
We're using the same font we've used for six years.
The kerning on the old one makes eleven look like two ones. Network people notice kerning, Deb.
Barcelona has completed the most expensive defensive midfielder signing in football history. Sixty-five million pounds for Manchester City's Rodri.
That's approximately eighty-one million dollars. The player of the twenty twenty-six World Cup leaves after seven trophy-laden years with City.
This positions Barcelona to compete across all competitions this season. Champions League, La Liga, domestic cups. That's a complete midfield.
Barcelona finished second last season.
Which is why they spent eighty-one million dollars, Deb.
Closer to home. Shohei Ohtani extended his home run streak with two more last night as the Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies eleven to five at Coors Field.
Blake Snell pitched seven strong innings. Ohtani is batting three-seventeen with thirty-one home runs this season.
Thirty-one in August is a pace nobody expected after the elbow surgery. That's what separates elite talent from competent talent.
He's recovering from Tommy John surgery and cannot pitch at all this season.
Which is why the home runs matter more.
The Dodgers return home tomorrow night to face Arizona. First pitch seven-oh-five Pacific.
And we should note that Rodri's transfer fee makes him the most expensive defensive midfielder in football history. City has not announced a replacement.
City has an academy system that produces exactly this kind of player. They'll promote from within, spend wisely in January, and finish top three.
City finished fourth last season.
Correct. Which means they have nowhere to go but up.
Coming up after the break on the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. A story we've been tracking all evening. Power still out for tens of thousands across Hawaii after Hurricane Lala made landfall early this morning.
Eighty-nine thousand households without electricity. The governor has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard.
We'll have the latest from Honolulu and what residents should expect overnight. That's the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour.
For KRAK 11 News, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We'll see you at the top of the hour.
Good night, Fairmont.
Who approved this.
Approved what.
The photo. My photo. On the website.
It's fine.
It looks like I have a flashlight in my face.
You look the same.
The same as what? The same as the time I was chased by the police for getting drunk at the grand opening of the Wellington Zoo and letting the Howler Monkeys Convince me we were just going to the store to get some snacks.
That was an interesting evening.
Yes. and I still have to sit when I pee, So change the Headshot, This is personal.
