KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Fairmont. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. A British couple on their honeymoon killed in a helicopter crash on a Greek island. We have details on the victims and the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The United States and Iran have missed a critical deadline to begin peace talks this week. The monthslong conflict has already depleted significant resources, and we'll break down what the missed deadline means for both nations in the next hour.
Primary results from Alaska, Florida, and Wyoming. We'll have the U.S. Senate seat race that could shift the balance in Washington.
Plus, why London officials are warning tourists and locals alike not to feed the deer in the Royal Parks. The safety risks may surprise you.
It's because they bite.
And later this hour on the World Desk, a Greek island community in mourning after a tragic crash claims three lives. That's next on KRAK 11 News.
I won three hundred bucks.
On what.
Scratch ticket.
You play the lottery.
Sometimes.
The lottery is a tax on people who can't do math.
I just won three hundred dollars.
And how much have you spent.
I don't track that.
Exactly. and another thing why the fuck do people buying lottery tickets always take so long at the counter, they take forever picking, they pay for the tickets in multiple payments, and then they scratch and get right back in line until they are broke, I do not get it. But Congratulations on your loss.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Chip has been sitting forward for the last eleven minutes.
It reads as engaged.
It reads as a man leaning into the camera.
Tonight from Moscow, the first major Western artist to announce tour dates in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine.
Kanye West has confirmed eight performances across Russia beginning in November. The venues include arenas in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg.
This is a significant cultural exchange during a period when most Western artists have avoided the region entirely, citing security concerns and the ongoing conflict with neighboring states in Eastern Europe.
Russia is not in Eastern Europe.
The western portion of Russia extends into the Eastern European plain, which is where these venues are located, and the tour represents the first time an American performer of this stature has committed to the region since diplomatic relations deteriorated.
Ticket sales open Friday through Russian platforms only. A representative for West confirmed the dates but declined to comment on logistics.
We'll continue to follow this story as additional cities may be added to the schedule. Deb?
Thank you, Chip. Also tonight, new testimony in the Tupac Shakur murder trial. A Las Vegas police officer who was first on the scene the night the rapper was shot testified today that Shakur refused medical assistance and told officers, quote, we'll take care of it.
The officer, who was a patrol sergeant in nineteen ninety-six, described the scene outside the MGM Grand as chaotic, saying, quote, all hell broke loose, in the minutes following the shooting.
Shakur was shot four times while stopped at a red light on Flamingo Road in September of nineteen ninety-six. He died six days later at University Medical Center.
The defendant, Duane Davis, has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say he was in the vehicle that night and provided the weapon used in the shooting.
The trial is expected to continue through mid-September. We are monitoring it from here.
Also from overseas tonight, a tragedy on what should have been the trip of a lifetime.
A British couple on their honeymoon were killed in a helicopter crash on a Greek island earlier this week. The newlyweds have been identified as Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert. Their Greek pilot was also killed.
Greek authorities say the helicopter was operated by a local tour company that has been in business for seventeen years. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
The families have asked for privacy. We will not speculate on cause until Greek investigators release their findings.
Our thoughts are with them.
And from the Philippines tonight, one student is dead and another has taken his own life following a shooting at a Catholic school in Manila earlier today.
Philippine authorities say the alleged shooter, also a student at the school, died at the scene. The victim has not been publicly identified pending notification of family.
Local police have not released details about a possible motive. The school has been closed indefinitely.
We will continue to monitor that story from here. Deb, before we go to break—
We're at time.
We have thirty-eight seconds.
We're at time.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, the Wexler County Sheriff says three suspects fled a stolen vehicle on foot after a brief chase ended near the fairgrounds. One is still at large. That story is next in Criminal Intent.
You're watching KRAK 11 News.
We need one more.
For what.
Fantasy league.
I don't do fantasy football.
It's fun.
It's make-believe. I have a real life.
It's football.
It's pretend football. I deal in reality, Larry. I report actual events.
Calm down guys. Chip.. What are you doing this weekend?
Playing Dungeons and Gragons with some friends
You have got to be fucking kidding me.
What?
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Tonight's Blotter starts with a social media trend that police say has crossed the line from prank to felony.
This one deserves the full treatment.
Law enforcement agencies across nine states are warning the public about what's being called the door-kicking challenge, in which participants film themselves kicking in a stranger's door and running away before the homeowner can respond.
Police say at least four participants have been shot at by homeowners who believed they were experiencing a break-in.
Authorities describe the challenge as, quote, turning a viral prank from funny to fatal. Two teenagers in Ohio have been charged with criminal trespass and property damage after allegedly posting video of themselves kicking in seven doors in one neighborhood.
Prosecutors allege the suspects used that video to gain followers on multiple platforms.
If we had helicopter footage of this operation, you would see exactly how the suspects moved through the neighborhood in a coordinated pattern. We do not have helicopter footage. But the pattern would be visible from the air.
In New Hampshire, state police arrested a driver after a high-speed chase on Interstate Ninety-Five ended in Waterville. The suspect is charged with criminal operating under the influence and reckless conduct.
Troopers say the vehicle reached speeds exceeding one hundred miles per hour before the driver pulled over voluntarily near the Waterville exit.
Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody without incident.
Pulled over voluntarily after reaching one hundred miles per hour. That is what we call a late decision.
A British man has been charged with publishing addresses of asylum seekers online. Prosecutors allege the defendant shared location data for more than forty individuals housed in temporary accommodations across three counties.
The case is being treated as incitement under the Communications Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in magistrates' court next month.
And British customs officials have seized more than one hundred sixty million pounds worth of narcotics at the same port in one month. The seizures were part of separate operations targeting the same destination.
That is a person-of-interest situation.
That is several persons of interest.
Still ahead on KRAK Eleven News, we have a story about animals that are happy. Not conflicted. Not persons of interest. Just happy.
That's next.
Hand me the drops.
You just used them.
That was four minutes ago.
Your eyes are going to fall out.
My eyes can't not be blood shot during the show.
Lay off the weed.
Hey! It is Legal now and I have a prescription.
someone is in the lobby requesting an interview.
Eyedrops Deb..
here you go...
HAPPY ANIMALS
And now the Good News Desk.
I have been sitting forward for seventeen minutes now and I believe it is making a measurable difference in how the material lands.
You look like a man watching surgery.
Network anchors sit forward during the feel-good block. It reads as emotionally available.
London's Royal Parks are home to some of the oldest wild deer populations in the world, and officials are reminding visitors that feeding them is dangerous.
The deer bite. They've injured seventeen people this year, most of them holding bread.
Parks officials say the deer are wild animals, not pets, and visitors should photograph them from at least fifty meters away.
Fifty meters is half a football field.
That is correct.
Closer to home, a Fairmont veterinary clinic successfully performed surgery on a box turtle that had been struck by a lawnmower three weeks ago.
The turtle's shell was fractured in four places. Staff used medical-grade epoxy and a custom brace to stabilize the injuries.
The turtle will be released back to the property where it was found once the shell has fully healed, which veterinarians say could take up to six months.
Six months is a long time for a turtle to wait.
It is.
And in Wexler County, a dog rescued from a storm drain last Tuesday has been adopted by the firefighter who pulled him out.
The dog had no collar and no microchip. The county shelter held him for ten days, no one claimed him, and the firefighter filed the paperwork that afternoon.
The dog's name is now Grate.
Still ahead, we have an update on the Alaska Senate primary, where votes are still being counted, and we'll tell you why one candidate says the process itself is on trial. That's coming up in SPORTS.
Do you believe in prayer.
What.
Prayer. Manifestation. The power of positive thinking.
What did you do.
I sent an email.
To who.
The station owner.
What did it say.
It was meant for you.
Oh god.
Ya, it was late, I was drunk, what can I say.
SPORTS
And now the KRAK 11 Scoreboard.
Before we begin, I would like it noted that I have been sitting forward for twenty-three minutes and the posture is holding.
You look like a man watching his own house burn down.
Network anchors sit forward. It conveys authority.
In baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks eight to five. Aaron Nola struck out nine over seven innings.
The Baltimore Orioles shut out the Boston Red Sox three to nothing behind Corbin Burnes' complete game.
In football, the Green Bay Packers open preseason play Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns at Lambeau Field. Kickoff is seven thirty Central.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions play Saturday in what will be the first meeting between the teams since the Super Bowl.
Saturday. Which is unusual for a preseason matchup of that caliber. The league is testing viewer appetite for weekend exhibition games during a historically weak programming month.
The league is testing whether people will watch football in August.
In tennis, Jannik Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets to advance to the Cincinnati Open final. Six-four, six-three.
Sinner will face Frances Tiafoe in Sunday's final after Tiafoe upset Holger Rune seven-six, six-four.
In college football, the University of Texas is favored by four and a half over the University of Michigan in their season opener September second.
That is the smallest opening-week spread between ranked opponents in four years.
Smallest spread, biggest stakes. It's a statement game for both programs, and I believe the winner controls momentum in the playoff conversation through the end of October.
The playoff has twelve teams.
Twelve competitive teams.
In basketball, the Phoenix Mercury defeated the Los Angeles Sparks ninety-one to seventy-nine. Diana Taurasi scored twenty-six points in thirty-one minutes.
The New York Liberty are now eight and one in their last nine games after defeating the Dallas Wings one hundred to eighty-eight.
Breanna Stewart had thirty-one points and nine rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu added twenty-two.
Locally, the Fairmont Falcons begin their season Friday night at home against the Wexler County Cougars. First pitch is six fifteen.
The Falcons finished last season twelve and eighteen.
And they return seven starters, which is why this year feels different. Experience at the varsity level is the single greatest predictor of postseason success.
They return seven starters from a team that finished twelve and eighteen.
Experience matters, Deb.
Still ahead on the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour, a wildfire in southern California has forced evacuations in three counties. Crews are calling it the fastest-moving blaze in the region's history.
We'll have the latest from the fire line, including containment estimates that changed twice in the last four hours.
And a Wexler County teenager has qualified for the national spelling bee after winning the state championship yesterday.
That's next.
Gordo, shake my hand.
Why.
I've been practicing.
Practicing what.
The grip. The duration. The eye contact.
You're practicing handshakes.
It's the first thing people notice.
Did you wash your hands?
No.
ok, lets do it.
Wiat.. did you wash your hands?
