KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News, with a full lineup ahead.
We begin at The World Desk, where testimony continues in the murder trial of Tupac Shakur. A witness describes the night of the shooting, and what the rapper said to police as he was dying.
Then Criminal Intent. Spain's Rodri lands in Barcelona to complete what he's calling a dream move from Manchester City, and we'll have reaction from the Catalan faithful.
That's the sports desk, Chip.
It's Criminal Intent because it involves a contract. Then Happy Animals, and Sports with the latest from across the region. Plus, a federal court ruling on firearms law has lapsed, and we'll explain what that means for certain weapons and owners.
Still ahead on The World Desk, a witness takes the stand in the Tupac Shakur murder trial and describes what the rapper told an officer moments after he was shot.
That's next.
Take that off.
It's called distinguished.
It's called a sweater vest.
George Will wears a sweater vest.
George Will is eighty-three years old.
Exactly. Timeless.
You look like you teach at a community college.
I could teach at a community college.
Chip, you look like you're about to explain why I got a C-minus.
Well maybe if you'd turned in your assignments on time, Deb.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Chip, before we begin, your microphone is three inches closer to your chin than it was yesterday.
Network anchors mic close. It reads as intimate.
It reads as someone whispering the news.
We begin tonight from Washington, where President Trump says the United States will, quote, substantially reduce joint military exercises with South Korea, citing what he called his very good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The exercises involve approximately twenty-eight thousand U.S. troops currently stationed in South Korea and tens of thousands of South Korean military personnel. They have been conducted annually since nineteen fifty-four.
The president said the reduction would save what he called a tremendous amount of money and described the exercises as, quote, provocative to Pyongyang.
South Korea was not consulted before the announcement.
They'll hear about it now.
They did.
Seventy years of joint readiness on the peninsula, scaled back because of personal rapport. That is what diplomacy looks like in the modern era.
Seventy-one years. The exercises began in fifty-four.
Fifty-three was the armistice.
Fifty-four was the first exercise.
Thank you, Deb.
The Pentagon says it is reviewing the directive and will provide further details in the coming days. South Korean officials have requested a briefing from Washington.
Which they should not have had to request.
No.
From Las Vegas tonight, a key witness has taken the stand in the murder trial connected to the nineteen ninety-six shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur. This is the first trial in a case that has remained unsolved for nearly thirty years.
A Las Vegas police officer testified that after Shakur was shot multiple times on the Las Vegas Strip, he refused to cooperate with investigators and told the officer, quote, we'll take care of it.
The officer described the scene that night as, quote, all hell broke loose. Shakur died six days later from his injuries. He was twenty-five years old.
The trial is being held in Clark County, Nevada. Prosecutors say they have new evidence that was not available to investigators in nineteen ninety-six.
This is one of the most famous unsolved cases in American music history, and they're asking a jury to trust testimony from thirty years ago. That's a long time to carry detail.
It's the detail they have.
Also tonight, Russia continues to issue warnings to the United Kingdom over British support for Ukraine. We have covered those warnings extensively this week. Tonight, no new warnings have been issued.
Correct.
So that's progress.
It's Wednesday.
Deb. The Korea story. Did that land as authoritative.
It landed as close-mic.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, a Wexler County woman called police to report her neighbor for stealing a garden hose. The hose was hers. She had lent it to him in May and forgot.
And a man in Fairmont is disputing a parking ticket he received while parked in his own driveway. That story and more when CRIMINAL INTENT continues.
You're watching KRAK 11 News.
The intern needs to go.
She's been here two days.
She corrected me.
She was right.
That's not the point.
You said Herrera wrong.
I said it my way.
Your way is wrong.
I've been saying it that way for six years. If it was wrong someone would have mentioned it.
we have all mentioned it, and you have been a dick every time. so don't worry. She will most likely never mention it again.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Tonight: a footballer leaves England under contract, a shadow crosses Spain without permission, and a White House aide nobody can find.
We begin tonight with what authorities are calling an unauthorized celestial event.
Chip.
Monday afternoon, the Moon's shadow crossed Spanish airspace without filing a flight plan, darkening the skies ninety minutes north of Madrid for approximately four minutes.
It was a total solar eclipse. The Moon does not require a flight plan.
Witnesses report the temperature dropped eleven degrees in two minutes. No injuries have been reported, but Spanish officials say they had no advance notice of the trajectory.
Astronomers published the trajectory in eighteen ninety-seven.
In national news, federal investigators are searching for a person of interest known only as Natalie, believed to be connected to operations inside the current administration.
No investigators are searching. Social media users are asking who Natalie is after references to the aide appeared in multiple reports this week.
The individual has not been located. The White House has declined to comment on whether Natalie exists, which is the kind of non-denial that tells you everything.
Or it tells you nothing, which is what the White House said.
And overseas: Spanish authorities say Manchester City midfielder Rodri arrived in Barcelona Monday to finalize a transfer the club is calling his quote dream move, despite an existing contract with City running through twenty twenty-seven.
That is a legal transfer between two football clubs, Chip. Barcelona and Manchester City have agreed terms.
He told reporters it was his dream to play for Barcelona. That is motive, means, and a documented confession on Spanish soil.
It is a press conference.
Still ahead on KRAK Eleven News: a golden retriever begins hospital visits this week, and we'll tell you how parents can request her for pediatric patients. That story is next.
Stay with us.
So.
So what.
Nothing. Just a day. Like any other day.
Okay.
Although some days are more significant than others.
Is today significant.
I didn't say that.
Happy birthday, Chip.
How did you know.
You do this every year. I hope you have a wonderful day..
HAPPY ANIMALS
Good news from the animal desk.
You're sitting forward again.
I am not sitting forward. This is my natural posture for good news.
Punch the capuchin has been cleared for outdoor enclosure time beginning Monday.
The rehabilitation center says he has met every safety milestone ahead of schedule and will spend twenty minutes daily in natural sunlight with staff supervision.
He held mango for eleven seconds Thursday.
That is— that is a very good monkey.
The staff did good work.
They did. Maple the golden retriever begins pediatric wing visits Friday at Fairmont Regional, twice weekly at nine a.m., and parents can request her through nursing staff for patients ages three and up.
The hospital says she has passed temperament screening and will rotate between two floors depending on patient load.
A wild orangutan in Sumatra has been observed treating her own facial wound with medicinal plant paste, the first documented case of self-medication by a great ape in natural habitat.
Researchers say she selected the plant, prepared it by chewing, and applied it directly to the injury while being filmed.
The wound healed without infection.
It did.
Still ahead, Sports, including a contract dispute that may explain why several franchises are now sharing equipment.
That's next.
Stop.
Stop what.
Whatever you're spraying.
It's called Broadcast. It's its a new cologne.
It smells like dick..
Something you are familiar with?
The booth smells like a taco bells bathroom.
I can taste it when I breathe.
That means it's working.
SPORTS
Sports.
Gordo, is the scoreboard centered.
It's the same scoreboard we've used for six years.
I'm aware. I would like it centered.
Max Holloway is questioning why Islam Makhachev walks around with two championship belts, and Makhachev had a response.
Holloway, who holds the B-M-F belt, suggested Makhachev should defend one title before claiming both the lightweight and welterweight divisions. Makhachev's reply was direct: win one belt before you comment on two.
The B-M-F belt is not a championship belt.
It's a ceremonial title awarded after his fight with Justin Gaethje.
It's a prop.
In basketball, the Lakers ownership situation has changed. The Buss family intends to sell the franchise, which will remove Jeanie Buss from her role as governor.
The family purchased the team in nineteen seventy-nine for sixty-seven point five million dollars. The franchise is now valued at seven point one billion.
That is a ten-thousand-percent return over forty-seven years.
Real estate in Los Angeles.
Basketball in Los Angeles.
The Rams ranked fifth in E-S-P-N's Future Power Rankings this week. The rankings measure long-term competitiveness based on front office quality, coaching stability, quarterback play, and roster construction.
Detroit took the top spot. Kansas City, Buffalo, and Philadelphia rounded out the top four. The Rams moved up three positions from last year's ranking.
The Rams were eight-and-nine last season.
The rankings are forward-looking, Deb. That's the whole point of calling them Future Power.
They're aspirational.
In soccer, Kyle Walker's departure from Manchester City has been documented in a new series about Pep Guardiola's final two seasons with the club. Walker left for A-C Milan in January, eighteen months before the documentary aired.
The series shows a confrontation between Guardiola and Walker during training. Guardiola addressed Walker's commitment to the squad. Walker responded by requesting a transfer within forty-eight hours.
Walker was the team captain.
Former captain.
After the confrontation.
That has been the Scoreboard.
That has been the Scoreboard, Chip.
Still ahead on the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour, we'll have updated weather, traffic, and a story out of Wexler County involving a property dispute that has now entered its third year of litigation.
Three years over a fence neither party has used since twenty twenty-three.
We'll have the details at the top of the hour. For Deb Sarkissian, I'm Chip Marlowe. Thank you for trusting KRAK 11 News.
We need one more.
For what.
Fantasy league.
I don't do fantasy football.
It's fun.
It's make-believe. I have a real life.
It's football.
It's pretend football. I deal in reality, Larry. I report actual events.
Calm down guys. Chip.. What are you doing this weekend?
Playing Dungeons and Gragons with some friends
You have got to be fucking kidding me.
What?
