Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Thank you for joining us at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News.
Tonight on KRAK 11: a presidential envoy meets with Israel's Prime Minister after talks with Hamas. The World Desk is next.
Then: a Florida woman is charged with murder six years after her ex-husband was shot in front of their child. Criminal Intent follows.
Later this hour: a boxer wins her nation's first Commonwealth Games medal without throwing a punch.
And this week on Happy Animals: another zoo escape.
It's always a zoo escape.
All of that this hour on KRAK 11 News. The World Desk is up next with developments in the Middle East. Stay with us.
What is that smell.
It's called Executive.
It's called what.
Executive. It's what they wear in boardrooms.
It smells like a hookers hotel.
Exactly.
Chip, you smell like a divorced dad at a Marriott.
Or a Married Dad on a business trip to Vegas.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian.
Gordo, is camera two centered equally on both of us.
It's the fifth time you've asked.
International coverage requires parity.
President Trump has threatened military action against the Sultanate of Oman, a formal treaty ally of the United States, if Omani authorities interfere with American negotiations with Iran.
The threat comes as both countries work separately to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Oman's role as a key regional partner under the Abraham Accords makes this particularly complicated.
Oman is not part of the Abraham Accords. The strait carries fourteen percent of global oil traffic through Omani territorial waters.
Thank you, Deb. The waterway has been effectively closed during ongoing hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
The White House has not clarified what constitutes interference, and the Omani government has not responded to requests for comment.
In Britain, Downing Street is declining to comment on a security breach involving Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, who exchanged messages with someone posing as President Trump's chief of staff.
The breach was first reported by Politico. Burnham's office confirmed the exchange occurred but has not disclosed the content of the messages or how long the communication continued before the impersonation was discovered.
British intelligence services are reportedly investigating how the impersonator gained access to what appeared to be secure communications channels.
The actual chief of staff has not issued a statement.
In County Kildare, authorities have released the names of two of the five teenagers killed when their vehicle traveled the wrong way down a motorway early Saturday morning.
Luke McSweeney, seventeen, and Aoife Curry, sixteen, both of Naas. Three other victims have not yet been identified pending family notification. A seven-year-old boy remains in stable condition at Children's Health Ireland.
The crash occurred in County Kildare's central highlands region around two-fifteen Saturday morning.
County Kildare is west of Dublin in the lowlands. The motorway involved is the M7, one of Ireland's primary routes.
Investigators have not determined why the vehicle was traveling against traffic or how long it had been doing so before the collision.
Three adults were also injured. Two have been released from hospital.
In Britain, Labour MP Taiwo Alaba has been suspended from the party pending an investigation into Covid-era business loans. Alaba has acknowledged taking out two taxpayer-funded loans during the pandemic but says he did not attempt to avoid repayment.
The loans in question were part of the government's Bounce Back Loan Scheme, which provided emergency funding to small businesses during the pandemic. Records show Alaba received sixty-eight thousand pounds across two separate applications.
The scheme was designed to be processed rapidly with minimal verification, and investigators are now reviewing whether applications were made under Alaba's name or through entities he controlled.
Alaba maintains he intended to repay both loans in full and that the investigation will confirm no wrongdoing occurred.
Labour leadership has not provided a timeline for the inquiry.
Alaba represents Birmingham Erdington and has sat in Parliament since twenty-nineteen.
That's the world tonight. Deb, before we go to break, if you were advising a new anchor on international delivery—
I would tell them to pronounce the place correctly.
I do.
You do not.
Coming up, Criminal Intent. A Wexler County man is arrested for the third time in eight days, and the charge this time is one we have never covered at this desk.
That's next.
Should I open With a joke? Or inspirational Story?
For what?
The big Speech I am giving at the Rotary Club.
People like good jokes.
Okay. So. Inspirational Story it is.
Chip...
I will tell the story of when I risked my life to save a fellow citizen in need, How I never even knew who this person was before I helped, but if it were not for me, Linda would not be living the live she is today, because of my actions she is alive.
Stop.
what do you mean?
I know Linda, You gave her twenty dollars to cover her lunch, that is hardly saving her life..
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Chip has been sitting forward for the last hour.
I am maintaining an alert posture. It reads as engaged.
It reads as a man who lost something under the desk.
We begin tonight with a story out of Lithuania that has authorities baffled and the internet absolutely delighted. A hundred and fifty corgis descended on the city of Vilnius over the weekend for what organizers are calling an annual race.
Nine countries represented. The city issued a permit in May. This was not a surprise incursion.
Nine countries. That is an international coalition of short-legged canines operating in a sovereign European capital, Deb, and nobody thought to inform this desk.
It's a dog race, not a treaty.
Closer to home, a Florida woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the twenty-twenty-two killing of Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan. Prosecutors say Shanna Gardner orchestrated the shooting as Bridegan dropped off his children following a custody exchange.
Bridegan was shot multiple times on February sixteenth, twenty-twenty-two. His two-year-old daughter was in the vehicle at the time. Gardner has pleaded not guilty and faces the death penalty if convicted.
The case took investigators more than three years to bring charges. They describe it as complex, methodical, and — I'm reading from the affidavit here — premeditated over a period of months.
Prosecutors allege, Chip.
Prosecutors allege. The trial is expected to begin in early twenty-twenty-seven.
In international news, the Scottish Football Association has named Sebastien Pocognoli as the new head coach of the men's national team. Pocognoli is thirty-nine years old.
Thirty-nine. That is younger than some of the players he will be coaching, Deb, and substantially younger than the median age of every manager in the Premier League, which is fifty-two point four.
The Scottish FA called the hire brave and ambitious. Pocognoli has never managed at the international level.
Brave is what you say when the data does not support the decision.
Or when the decision requires courage.
Still ahead tonight: animals that should not be in parking lots, but are. Happy Animals is next, and you will want to see what happened when a lemur found a concession stand.
That's next.
You need to go home.
I'm fine.
You are coughing all over the place.
I am fine, Just read the news and mind your own business.
Calm down... I was only trying to help.
I'm Sorry
No Problem.
Sixty seconds.
Gordo, get me a mask.
I'm not contagious.
I am doing the NEWS as if it were 2020, Masks on
HAPPY ANIMALS
Time now for Happy Animals.
You're sitting forward again.
I am engaged with the material.
And we begin tonight with a lemur who has not learned his lesson.
Captain, the ring-tailed lemur at the Columbus Zoo, has escaped his enclosure for a third time in four months. He was found this morning in the employee break room.
Zoo officials say Captain bypassed the additional fencing installed after his second escape in September. He was eating a bagel when staff arrived.
The zoo is reviewing security protocols.
That is a—
That is a very persistent animal. The zoo has seventeen enclosures and he has found a way out of one of them three separate times.
He wants a bagel, Chip.
A dog in West Virginia found a missing girl in under forty minutes. Ranger, a Belgian Malinois certified in twenty-twenty-two, located the eleven-year-old in Jefferson County after she wandered from a campsite Thursday evening.
The girl was unharmed. Ranger has assisted in seventeen successful searches since his certification. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says he is the best tracking dog they have ever worked with.
Seventeen searches. Seventeen times someone called and said we need help and he went and found them.
He's very good at his job.
A penguin at the San Diego Zoo has learned to paint. Officials say the bird uses a modified brush and has produced six abstract works in the last two months, all of which have been auctioned to benefit the zoo's conservation programs.
The penguin's name is Wellington. The zoo says he showed interest in the activity during an enrichment session in September and has continued to participate voluntarily. His paintings have raised over four thousand dollars.
Coming up: SPORTS is next, and the Lady Pioneers are one win away from clinching the district. That's in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
I take seventeen vitamins now.
Why.
Optimal performance.
For what.
Broadcast. Stamina. Clarity.
You're reading a teleprompter.
At a very high level.
Your piss is neon. I know because the urinal in the mens room is a fucking mess.
That's how you know it's working.
SPORTS
Sports.
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. The Lady Pioneers are now perfect in district play.
Fairmont defeated Bridgeport sixty-four to fifty-three Friday night at home, extending their district record to ten and oh. Kylie Brennan led all scorers with twenty-three points.
Bridgeport is now two and eight in district. They beat Fairmont by eleven last season.
This is a completely different team. The defensive intensity, the execution in transition, the composure under pressure in the final four minutes — that's championship basketball.
It's ten wins.
Ten consecutive district wins.
The Lady Pioneers host Lincoln on Tuesday. Lincoln is seven and three in district and second in the standings. A Fairmont win would put them three games clear with four to play.
In football, the Fairmont Cougars closed out their season with a loss to Riverside, twenty-eight to fourteen. Tyler Vance threw for one hundred forty-seven yards and one touchdown.
The Cougars finish two and nine. They have not won since September twentieth.
Seven straight losses to end the year. That is a program that needs to take a hard look at itself in the off-season and ask some difficult questions about — Deb, is the graphic centered.
It's fine.
It's sitting low. The baseline is cutting through the score. Gordo, can we raise the panel two pixels — about commitment to excellence at every level of the organization.
The panel is fine, Chip.
In the National Football League, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns thirty-one to seventeen. Russell Wilson threw for two hundred ninety-three yards and three touchdowns.
Pittsburgh is now seven and two. Cleveland falls to two and seven. Both the Steelers and Baltimore are seven and two atop the AFC North.
Wilson is playing at an elite level. The decision-making, the arm strength, the ability to extend plays outside the pocket and still deliver the ball downfield with accuracy — that's what separates good from great.
He's thirty-six.
Experience is an asset.
It is.
Overseas, Great Britain's Amy Hunt continued her historic performance at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, becoming the first athlete to win four track golds at a single European Championship.
Hunt won the one hundred meter, two hundred meter, four by one hundred relay, and four by two hundred relay. After her final race, she quoted Gladiator: are you not entertained.
That is a champion who understands the moment. The performance speaks for itself, but the ability to capture the significance of what she's just accomplished with a single culturally resonant phrase — that's what elevates an athlete into a household name.
She ran fast and said a thing from a movie.
She — yes. But the context matters.
Still to come: the next KRAK Eleven News, at the top of the hour.
And before we go tonight, a thought on consistency. The Lady Pioneers are ten and oh not because of one player, not because of one game, but because they have shown up every single night and executed at a high level.
They play Tuesday.
And when they do, they will bring that same commitment to excellence. That's what champions do. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Good night.
Good night, Wexler County.
We're clear.
Did the close read? The champions line. Did that read as definitive.
It read as sports.
Meaning what.
Meaning you said something nice about a high school basketball team and then we went off the air.
I was building to something larger. The consistency theme. The discipline required to maintain excellence over time. That's not just about basketball, Deb, that's about life.
It's about ten wins.
Ten consecutive district wins achieved through unwavering commitment to a shared vision.
Chip, you want me to send that close to your tape?
Yes. The whole sports block. And Gordo, can you center camera two equally on both anchors for next hour.
It is centered.
It's favoring Deb by maybe three degrees.
Three degrees.
I can see it in the monitor. The left third of frame has more depth than the right. It's subtle, but it's there, and if I can see it, someone else can see it.
Nobody else can see it.
Then I'll be the only one who notices when it's fixed.
