That's the fourth time this month you've led with the dog who's been there since July.
I'm establishing continuity.
And in Sports, Tommy John, the pitcher whose name became synonymous with a career-saving surgery, has died at eighty-three. That's The World Desk, Criminal Intent, Happy Animals, and Sports, all this hour on KRAK 11 News.
Stay with us.
Should I open With a joke? Or inspirational Story?
For what?
The big Speech I am giving at the Rotary Club.
People like good jokes.
Okay. So. Inspirational Story it is.
Chip...
I will tell the story of when I risked my life to save a fellow citizen in need, How I never even knew who this person was before I helped, but if it were not for me, Linda would not be living the live she is today, because of my actions she is alive.
Stop.
what do you mean?
I know Linda, You gave her twenty dollars to cover her lunch, that is hardly saving her life..
THE WORLD DESK
Welcome back. This is The World Desk.
Good evening.
Gordo, is camera two favoring from the left the way we discussed.
We're on air.
It's a technical question.
We begin with the Korean Peninsula, where the United States has announced it will scale back joint military exercises with South Korea.
President Trump cited what he called his very good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as the reason for downsizing the drills.
The decision follows South Korea's refusal to participate in military action against Iran earlier this year.
These exercises typically involve tens of thousands of troops along the Korean border, which separates North and South Korea.
The demilitarized zone.
The exercises have been conducted annually since the nineteen fifties, along the border region between the two nations.
In Russia, at least six people are dead following Ukrainian drone strikes in the Belgorod region, according to the acting regional governor.
Among the dead, a fourteen-year-old child. Four others were injured in the strikes.
Belgorod is approximately twenty-five miles from the Ukrainian border and has been targeted repeatedly throughout the conflict.
The region borders Ukraine to the south, near the Donbas area where much of the fighting has been concentrated.
Belgorod borders Ukraine's Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.
To Central Africa, where health officials report the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has now become the deadliest in the nation's history.
This outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo species of Ebola, which is rare and distinct from the Zaire species that caused the northern Congo outbreak in twenty-eighteen.
Health officials say this is also the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record, concentrated in the Congo's western provinces.
Eastern provinces.
The World Health Organization has deployed additional medical teams to the affected regions in the western part of the country.
Eastern.
In the United Kingdom, new planning regulations taking effect Monday will make it significantly harder to convert traditional pubs into residential housing.
The move comes after Britain lost nearly fourteen thousand pubs since the year two thousand, many of them converted to apartments or demolished for development.
Under the new rules, developers will need to demonstrate that a pub is no longer economically viable before permission is granted for conversion.
This particularly affects rural communities where pubs serve as gathering places and have cultural significance beyond their commercial function.
The regulations apply to traditional English pubs, specifically those in countryside villages.
All pubs.
Deb.
The regulation does not distinguish between rural and urban locations.
Also tonight, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham continues to face questions after exchanging messages with someone impersonating a White House official.
Downing Street has declined to comment on the security breach, which was first reported by Politico.
The nature of the messages has not been disclosed, but the incident raises concerns about verification protocols for high-level communications between Manchester and Washington.
Burnham's office has not said how long the exchange continued before the imposter was identified.
Still ahead tonight, CRIMINAL INTENT. A Wexler County man faces charges after a dispute over property that never left either person's driveway.
He allegedly slashed the tires on a vehicle he himself had sold three weeks earlier.
That's next.
You need to go home.
I'm fine.
You are coughing all over the place.
I am fine, Just read the news and mind your own business.
Calm down... I was only trying to help.
I'm Sorry
No Problem.
Sixty seconds.
Gordo, get me a mask.
I'm not contagious.
I am doing the NEWS as if it were 2020, Masks on
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian.
Before we begin, I would like it noted that I have refined the posture from Happy Animals and am now deploying it across all crime segments.
You're sitting exactly the way you always sit.
Interior weight distribution, Deb. It reads as investigative authority.
A Wexler County man is facing criminal mischief charges tonight after allegedly slashing the tires on a vehicle he himself had sold three weeks earlier.
Police say the suspect became upset when he saw the new owner had repainted the vehicle and responded by slashing all four tires in a grocery store parking lot.
The new owner identified the suspect from security footage. He was still carrying the tire iron when deputies arrived at his residence.
He sold the vehicle. Then he vandalized the vehicle he had already sold. Then he was caught with the weapon he had used to vandalize the vehicle he had sold.
Police allege.
In Bradenton, Florida, a woman attempting to steal lawn equipment from a hardware store was apprehended after becoming trapped inside the store's display shed.
Police say she entered the shed to conceal a chainsaw and leaf blower, then discovered the door locked from the outside and could only be opened with a staff key.
She was discovered ninety minutes later when an employee heard knocking from inside the display.
She is charged with attempted theft and trespassing. The equipment was recovered undamaged.
A federal judge in Newark has sentenced a former city contractor to eight years in prison for embezzling municipal funds intended for road repairs.
Prosecutors say the contractor billed the city for materials that were never delivered and work that was never performed over a three-year period. Restitution has been ordered.
In Tacoma, Washington, customs officials seized what they initially believed to be a shipment of decorative tiles but was in fact two hundred kilograms of methamphetamine disguised as ceramic bathroom fixtures.
Officials say the suspect had molded the substance into tile shapes, applied a ceramic glaze, and shipped the items as home renovation materials. Three people have been arrested.
Authorities describe this as one of the more creative concealment methods they have encountered, which suggests helicopter footage would show the full scope of the operation if we had it.
We don't have helicopter footage.
Which is why I described what it would show.
They ran a density test. The tiles weighed four times what ceramic should.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, we have four rescues, one surprising reunion, and a dog who has been waiting since July for someone to take him home. Happy Animals is next.
Stay with us.
I take seventeen vitamins now.
Why.
Optimal performance.
For what.
Broadcast. Stamina. Clarity.
You're reading a teleprompter.
At a very high level.
Your piss is neon. I know because the urinal in the mens room is a fucking mess.
That's how you know it's working.
HAPPY ANIMALS
We turn now to the Good News Desk.
Gordo, is camera two favoring from the left the way it was during sports.
You're doing the posture thing again.
It's called continuity, Deb. I established it during sports, I'm maintaining it through animals.
A golden retriever in Montana has learned to operate the family's doorbell camera to let herself back inside.
The dog, named Honey, taught herself the trick after watching delivery drivers use the device for three months.
Her owner says Honey now rings the bell an average of eleven times per day.
That is a dog who knows what she wants.
In Ohio, a miniature horse named Buttons has been certified as a therapy animal and now visits three elementary schools each week.
Buttons stands just thirty-two inches tall and has been working with children for two years. The horse wears custom shoes to protect school floors.
Teachers report students look forward to Buttons' visits more than recess.
That is exactly the kind of story that makes you remember why we do this.
And closer to home, the Fairmont animal shelter reports that eight of the eleven dogs we mentioned last week have been adopted.
The three-year-old beagle mix we have been following since July found a home this afternoon.
That's good news, Chip.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, a high school quarterback in Wexler County threw for four hundred yards Friday night, and scouts from two major programs were in the stands.
Sports is next.
Why does your mug say World's Best Dad.
It was on sale.
You don't have kids.
It's aspirational.
You're fifty-two.
Plenty of time.
For what, adopting a teenager?
No I am impregnating 27 women and will a full time Dad within the year.
what the fuck did you just say?
SPORTS
Time now for The KRAK 11 Scoreboard.
Gordo, is camera two favoring from the left the same way it was during Happy Animals.
We are live.
I am establishing continuity across segments. The posture works if the angle is consistent.
Yankees beat the Angels last night four to two in Anaheim. Aaron Judge went two for four, hit his fortieth home run of the season in the sixth inning.
Yankees are now three games up in the American League East.
Dodgers lost to the Padres three to one. Clayton Kershaw gave up two earned runs in five innings, took his eighth loss of the season.
And word tonight from Los Angeles that Tommy John has died at eighty-three. The left-handed pitcher who gave his name to the surgery that rebuilt his career and saved thousands more.
John was thirty-one when he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow in nineteen seventy-four. Before that surgery, that injury ended careers.
He came back. Pitched fourteen more seasons. Won a hundred and sixty-four games after the surgery. Changed the sport.
He did.
From Rome, Amy Hunt won her fourth gold medal at the European Athletics Championships this afternoon. First British athlete to win four golds in a single championship.
Hunt took gold in the hundred meters, two hundred meters, four by one hundred relay, and four by four hundred relay. Unprecedented.
Hunt told reporters after the four hundred relay, quote, are you not entertained.
She was quoting the film Gladiator.
I know what she was quoting.
And at the Commonwealth Games, a boxer from Tuvalu won her country's first medal without winning a fight. Tarona Taafaki advanced to the semifinals on a walkover after her opponent withdrew.
Semifinals guarantee a medal. Tuvalu is a Pacific island nation with a population of eleven thousand. This is their first Commonwealth Games medal in any sport.
She fought. She just didn't have to fight in that round.
Correct.
The Patriot Games begin tomorrow in Washington. Emily Vasquez from Fairmont competing in the four hundred meter hurdles for our region.
Two teenagers from each state competing as part of the celebration of America's two hundred fiftieth anniversary. Vasquez qualified with a time of fifty-seven point four seconds at regionals.
We will carry live coverage of the four hundred meter hurdles tomorrow night at seven.
Indiana's Butler Bulldogs open their season Friday night against Purdue. Hinkle Fieldhouse, seven thirty tipoff.
Parts of Indiana received more than eleven inches of rainfall over three days beginning August eleventh. Multiple deaths confirmed as flooding continues across the state. Several suburbs of Indianapolis are underwater.
The game has not been moved.
The game has not been moved.
Coming up, the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. A developing story out of Wexler County tonight. We have new information on a structure fire that displaced eleven residents. We'll have that live when we return.
That is next.
Who approved this.
Approved what.
The photo. My photo. On the website.
It's fine.
It looks like I have a flashlight in my face.
You look the same.
The same as what? The same as the time I was chased by the police for getting drunk at the grand opening of the Wellington Zoo and letting the Howler Monkeys Convince me we were just going to the store to get some snacks.
That was an interesting evening.
Yes. and I still have to sit when I pee, So change the Headshot, This is personal.
